Long time no post

So, it has been quite a while since the last blog post. While things haven’t been happening on the website there has certainly been plenty going on in the real world. There has been such a lot since the last post that there is no why to fit it all in, so we will just have a look at some of the more recent activities.

The Active 18 group went to Oakwood Park recently. Everyone had a great time on the many exciting (and occasionally scary) rides. The Active 18 group is for adults with additional needs, it offers a wide range of opportunities to do various things they may not have done before or may not normally get a chance to do. This latest trip is just one of the many activities the group have done over the past few months, just some of the other sessions included art, yoga and even drama. Members of the group decide between them on what they want to do and many of the activities are planned and organised by members of the group too.

The Kids Away project works with children aged 8 to 16 who have been identified as, for one reason or another, needing some additional support. Weather they have difficult issues in their lives or are from a disadvantaged background the project gives them a chance to get away from these difficulties and just have fun. On their most recent trip they went to Folly Farm. There was lots to see and do, from farm animals like sheep and pigs, to the more exotic zoo animals like giraffes, zebras and even lions! There were also indoor and outdoor play areas to run about in. Overall both the children and volunteers had a fun (if tiring) day.

Looking to the future; it is almost the end of the academic year and so, as many of our volunteers are university students, lots of the projects will be winding down for the summer break. However, there will still be some projects running over the summer so if you are a volunteer, staying in Swansea and looking for something to do then get in touch to find out what is happening. As we approach the end of the year it is a good time to look back and celebrate all the achievements and great work that has been done; and we will be doing just that at our Discovery Awards. On Wednesday the 14th we will be gathering in café fusion on singleton campus for a tasty meal made with surplus food and to give out the awards, including the Discovery House Cup to the house with the most points. All volunteers are welcome and its free, just register your place via the Eventbrite line on our Facebook page.
