Sports, litter, gardening, painting… so many Discovery Projects.

Our new project Discovery Dragons is aiming to encourage engagement in sport by young people across Swansea. Discovery volunteers will be working with other organisations to provide a wide variety of sporting opportunities. We have already had a great deal of interest from many people wanting to volunteer on the project. To give everyone a chance to find out more, ask any questions and to meet the Active Young People’s Officers from the council; there will be a Volunteer Sign-up Event. So if you’re interested in sport or sports coaching and want to help children in Swansea engage with sport pop along to find out more and sign-up if you want to. Thursday 30th March, 6pm to 8pm, in the Discovery office. Any questions email v.l.williams@swansea.ac.uk .

Last week we were hugely pleased to receive a load of new litter picking equipment for our Tidy Towns project. Litter pickers, bag holding hoops and protective gloves were all kindly donated by the Nature Conservation Team at Swansea Council, with funding from the Welsh Government Single Revenue Grant. This new equipment will be a great asset for the project as it continues its excellent work helping keep the environment of Swansea clean. We would like to express our immense thanks to the people at Swansea Council that made this happen.

The Gardening and Decorating project is busy as ever! Today they have been out picking stones from Singleton Wildflower Gardens to make way for flowers and grass to grow. They have also finished painting about 250 individual books for a wall mural in the room for a new homework club in St Stephen’s Church. In total a massive 73 volunteer hours have been completed in just this last week alone, with one dedicated volunteer even working on their birthday.
