Wellbeing Champions
The Wellbeing Champions Project has been running for the past two years. We have 20 active volunteers, who have completed Student Minds Look After Your Mate Training, Boundaries and Mental Health Awareness Training. This provides training in listening and signposting skills enabling students to safely support their peers.
The Wellbeing Champions are currently facilitating ‘The Virtual Lounge’ on Wednesdays throughout the Student Union #StudyAid season. These are themed around the Five ways to wellbeing: to Learn, be Active, take Notice, Connect and Give. Our first session was a great success, with Ben from Discovery teaching us juggling skills, and students and volunteers discussing new things they are learning from home whilst unable to get out and participate in their usual activities. A further 3 sessions are planned for the next 3 Wednesdays at 2pm – look out for details on Swansea University Social Media Channels.
Looking forward to next year, we will be recruiting and training new volunteers, and supporting them to ‘Look After Their Mates’. Volunteers will continue to facilitate the Lounge as well as updating wellbeing notice boards around campus.
