Big Night In
Big Night In
Following the recent increase in spiking incidents occurring in the clubs around the UK, even here in Swansea, it is important to be aware of the problem and protect the vulnerable students.
To spike a drink means to put alcohol or drugs into someone’s drink without their knowledge and therefore their permission. Spiking has become an epidemic. Never before have we heard of so many students, not just females, waking up with no recollection of what happened the night before.
Swansea Big Night In, formerly known as Girls Night In, campaign in Swansea is raising awareness of the issues by organising a club boycott on the night of the 27th of October and educating people on the topic while providing safety tips for anyone going out. Big Night In organisers have already spoken to several club owners in Swansea and are in contact with Swansea University Student Union. SUSU has already issued a statement on the problem, stating that ‘we’ll do everything we can to put provisions in place in our community so that everyone can take part in the night-time economy safely’. SUSU is holding a forum on the night of the 27th to discuss the issues with the community and make everyone’s voices heard.
