Student Trustee Profile – Felicity McKee.
Felicity is a final year History Ph.D. student researching disability history and exploring visibility issues. She is also the project coordinator for the Connect project. When not doing that, she is involved in student politics and activism while being an active part of the research team at Disabled Students UK. Felicity loves to learn new things is currently learning Welsh.
Felicity has been at Discovery for 3+ years and first got involved with Food Swansea, offering food and company to those experiencing loneliness and isolation in the local community. As a Ph.D. student, you are a class of one, so it was ideal for her to finish up her day with food and people to talk to. Felicity reports that she benefitted just as much as the participants.
During her time at Discovery, Felicity has partaken in a wide range of projects. Some of these include making scrubs for the NHS, 3D-printed ear savers in the pandemic, making twiddle mitts for dementia patients, and working with Wellbeing Champions (which later became Connect.) She has participated in beach cleans and sent positive postcards. Felicity is a great asset to the team, is very flexible, and moves around the charity as needed, taking on a wide range of roles.
Felicity likes to have flexible roles, which allows her to have multiple ‘hats’ and jump around as needed. This approach has also let her try a little of everything to focus on areas that she wants to learn more in and help in others she has a speciality in.
We asked Felicity what is your favourite thing about Discovery?
The family-like nature of it. It is such a great space to make new friends.
