Student Trustee Profile – Georgia Rees.
Georgia is a third-year Psychology student, originally from Swansea but is currently studying abroad for a year with the University of Groningen in the Netherland.
Since her first year of university in 2019, Georgia has been a volunteer with Discovery and is now an ambassador and student trustee! First, getting involved during the give it a go week and completing a lot of virtual volunteering during the lockdown.
She has also participated in many other projects, including the pen pal project, Coronadiaries, lockdown litter pickers, inspire, and digital media. She has also partaken in many one-off volunteering events like beach clean-ups and working with external organisations.
Georgia decided to apply for trustee because she wanted to learn how a charity operates. The role will allow her to develop essential skills and gain experience to help her in her future career. Her interest in developing her leadership and management skills through this role makes it a perfect match.
Her future career aims are to support young people and families. Therefore, she aspires to a career in the third sector. Being involved with the behind-the-scenes of Discovery will give her a better understanding of how these charities and organisations function and how to best support individuals.
Georgia is originally from Swansea; her favourite thing about Discovery is their impact on the local community that she loves passionately.
“Volunteering with Discovery is so rewarding, and seeing firsthand how the projects run, and the time they dedicate benefits individuals, and other organisations is inspiring.”
