What is the surfability project ?
Surfability is Wales first adaptive and inclusive surf school where surfing is made accessible to all. They operate in Caswell Bay on the Gower where all equipment suited for the needs of learners are made available with accessible changing rooms. The Welsh Surfing Team in surfability has attended multiple international competitions which includes the World Adaptive Surfing Championships in California every year.
In surfability anyone can surf, people with different difficulties are given the opportunity to surf and enjoy and as a volunteer with Discovery working on this project means you will work with a large range of people from kids through to teenagers and adults also.

Volunteering with surfability is quiet flexible with a lot of options to get involved in which suits you and gives you the chance to choose between two environments to operate in with very exciting adventures to embark on. The sessions run on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at Caswell and Thursdays and Fridays at the LC which are indoor sessions. The indoor sessions are quiet easy working in, especially when you don’t want to be out in the cold or in the sea. They are also shorter sessions making it convenient for volunteers with busy schedule to help out too.

To volunteer however, you don’t necessarily have to know how to surf but you should know how to swim. As a volunteer during the sessions, you must have your wet suits and all the appropriate clothing suitable for the season ready and you help by making sure the correct boards are out for the surfers as there are different boards depending on the individual. In the water, your job as a volunteer would depend on how much help one would need as some of the kids do not need much assistance as compared to others. You also help put boards in the actual boarder in the LC sessions.

To be a Project Coordinator on surfability you must have your DBS check and be a Discovery volunteer. As a project Coordinator you have the chance to develop more skills as you organise the sessions, the travels to the location while leading a team of volunteers.
We are looking for volunteer project co-ordinators for a range of projects. Could you be one of our next cohort of amazing project co-ordinators?

Becoming a PC will assist you in gaining leadership experience, build a whole range of skills and lead your own team of volunteers.
