Friends of Singleton Park, one-off volunteering
My name is Rosa, I’m a student in my last year at Swansea University, and I’ve been interning with Discovery for a while now. Today, some of our amazing student volunteers and I went down to Singleton Park to meet with Vanessa and Rhiannon, who are two brilliant individuals who volunteer twice a week on Tuesday and Thursday for Friends of Singleton Park. This also includes a monthly litter pick on a Sunday. They do a range of activities, but today we were helping with ‘The Bog Garden Project’, where they are renewing the bog areas of Singleton Park (don’t be put off by the word bog, it is a truly beautiful area, which you can see from the picture).
It was a beautiful walk from Singleton Campus through the park in the sun, with lots of very happy, friendly dogs. Rhiannon and Vanessa were incredibly warm and inviting, which just added to the experience.
One of our volunteers said that it was nice to use her free time to, ‘do something good’, while also spending some time outside in the fresh air. This was some of our volunteers’ first expedition, but everyone got stuck in immediately, getting on with each other and having fun at the same time.
As a one-off volunteering experience, these can be much more convenient if you are busy or can’t commit to consistent volunteering. To find out more and sign up, have a look at https://volunteering.discoverysvs.org/
