International student Naman talks about his experience volunteering as a Project Coordinator for Discovery over the last year.
As a Discovery project coordinator for PENPAL, I have the privilege of facilitating meaningful connections between children and elderly individuals through letter exchanges. This role allows me to play a part in fostering positive change and building bridges between generations.
Volunteering as an international student has had a profound impact on me. It has not only provided me with valuable opportunities to engage with diverse communities, develop essential skills, and make a difference in the lives of others, but it has also significantly improved my language and communication skills. Through volunteering, I’ve gained a deeper understanding of different cultures, perspectives, and social issues, enriching my overall university experience.
Moreover, volunteering for Discovery has allowed me to develop deeper relationships with some of the best people in my life. These connections have been invaluable and have enriched my personal growth journey.
To any international students considering applying to be a project coordinator, I would say: Go for it! Being a project coordinator offers a unique chance to contribute to a worthy cause, develop leadership skills, and build connections with fellow students /active volunteers and community members. It’s a rewarding experience that allows you to make a tangible impact while also enhancing your personal and professional growth.
