Discovery’s Swansea Uni Staff Volunteering Scheme

/ June 6, 2024/ Uncategorized

I wanted to get involved with the Staff Volunteering Scheme because it’s a great chance to do something very different to my regular role. Plus, volunteering with Discovery was a huge highlight of my time as a student at Swansea University so learning that there was a way staff could get involved, I jumped at the opportunity!

So far, I have used my Staff Volunteering Scheme time to spend a day in the Discovery Hub on Singleton Campus. Whilst I was there, I worked one-to-one and in small groups with adults with disabled adults who volunteer with Discovery regularly. I joined the weekly Social Action Group, made up of a mixture of student volunteers and disabled adults, who come together to take small actions to make the world a better place. The activity we did was about boosting self-esteem, focusing on identifying things we are good at and that we enjoy doing to stay happy and healthy.

The best bit was getting to meet new people, as well as seeing some familiar faces I haven’t seen in a long time and just generally being back in the Discovery Hub!

I would recommend to other staff members to get involved with the Staff Volunteering Scheme because it’s a fantastic way of getting involved with something that gives back to the local community and a chance to do some work with some amazing people!

If you are a member of staff at Swansea University who is interested in volunteering with Discovery drop us an email to get involved in the staff Volunteer Scheme discovery@swansea.ac.uk
