Why I volunteer
Bethan Hughes, a psychology student, tells us why she volunteers
“During my time volunteering with Discovery I have developed a range of new skills and worked with children, disabled adults and refugee and asylum seekers which has given me valuable insight into the lives of others which will be beneficial in my future career in psychology. My role as a Project Coordinator required coordinating, recruiting and retaining volunteers in order for the projects to run effectively. I was also elected trustee, this allowed me to make important decisions. I have become more confident whilst volunteering and I have represented Discovery by giving lecture talks as a result.”
“Yn ystod fy nghyfnod yn gwirfoddoli gyda Darganfod, rwyf wedi datblygu ystod o sgiliau newydd a gweithio gyda phlant, oedolion anabl a ffoaduriaid a cheiswyr lloches, rhwybeth sydd wedi rhoi mewnwelediad gwerthfawr i fywydau pobl eraill a fydd yn fuddiol i’m gyrfa mewn seicoleg yn y dyfodol. Fel rhan o’m rôl fel Cydlynydd Prosiect, roedd angen i mi gydlynu gwirfoddolwyr, eu recriwtio a’u cadw er mwyn i’r prosiectau weithredu’n effeithiol. Hefyd cefais fy ethol yn ymddiriedolwr a roddodd gyfle i mi wneud penderfyniadau pwysig. Rwyf wedi dod yn fwy hyderus wrth wirfoddoli, ac rwyf wedi cynrychioli Darganfod trwy roi sgyrsiau darlith o ganlyniad i hyn.”
