About Us
Discovery is a registered, student led charity, working on improving the lives of people living in Swansea. Founded over 50 years ago, today we have over 600 volunteers working on more than 30 different life changing projects.
Our positive impact on the community was recognized in 2014 with the honorable Queens Award for Voluntary Services, the highest accolade a charity can achieve.
Discovery’s key aims are to:
- Enrich the lives of disadvantaged people.
- Challenge discrimination.
- Support disabled people
Our History
Our journey starts in 1966, when a group of Swansea University students saw a need for change. They got together and formed the original Swansea Volunteering Services, an orgnaisation created to make a difference in the local community.
After five decades of tireless work helping the elderly, organizing trips for local children, gardening, and much more, we became a registered charity, operating on an even wider range of projects, putting the community at the center of our work.
